Did You Know

  • Their are over 170,000 Registered Charities in England & Wales as of March 2022
  •  For Gift Aid, paid at the basic rate of Income Tax, direct to charities, the amount paid was down 3% at £1.3 billion. This reduction was caused by HMRC putting on hold more claims than usual in March 2022 for extra risk assessment. HMRC paid most of the affected claims in April and May 2022, and these will appear in next year’s statistics. The amounts claimed by charities in that period are not affected: they have risen slightly year-on-year.
  • That £360m was paid back to Higher Rate tax payers on charitable donations  last year
  •  Just over half of the value of Gift Aid repayments went to charities that received less than £1 million each, in line with previous years (Table 4).
  • You can only claim Gift Aid for a charity if you are an actual tax payer.
  • Gift Aid can only be claimed if it is a personal donation.
  • You can claim back 25pence for every £1 that is donated to your charity or community amateus sports club
  • To be a registered as a Charity you need an annual income of £5,000
  • You do not need a gaming licence to host a race night, providing you operate within certain rules.
  • If you sell a strip of raffle tickets each ticket has to be seperated.
  • You are not allowed to offer incentives to buy raffle tickets, e.g. 5 strips for the cost of 4.
  • Bingo is classed as a game of skill as you have to be able to listen and concentrate  to the  numbers being called.
